Dr. Kasun G. Madivila is a globally recognized gemologist, educator, and gemstone researcher committed to advancing the science, education, and sustainable development of gemology in Sri Lanka and beyond.
As the Founder and Chief Gemologist of TGL Gem Lab, one of Sri Lanka’s leading gemological laboratories with branches in Beruwala, Rathnapura, and Kandy, Dr. Madivila combines scientific expertise with a passion for gemstone discovery. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of Tourmaline Lanka Gem Magazine, a pioneering publication that highlights the latest research, industry trends, and developments within the Sri Lankan and international gem markets.
He holds a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the USA, and prestigious certifications including Graduate Gemologist (GG) and Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP) from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

Our History
TGL GemLab began its journey in 2014, founded by Kasun G. Madivila, GG (GIA), with a vision to elevate the standards of gemology in Sri Lanka. The same year, he launched Tourmaline Lanka Magazine—the first-ever gemological magazine in Sri Lanka, creating a groundbreaking platform for gem education, research, and industry news. The magazine remains a trusted source of knowledge and inspiration across the global gem community.
What started as a single gemological laboratory in Colombo has since expanded to include fully equipped labs in Beruwala, Rathnapura, Kandy, and Galle, along with an international presence in China. TGL GemLab is now recognized for its high-precision gem testing, certification, and professional standards.
In addition to laboratory services, TGL Gemological Institute offers structured educational programs that produce highly skilled gemologists, appraisers, and gemstone entrepreneurs. The institute also organizes foreign educational tours, offering students immersive learning experiences in global gem markets and mining regions.
Through the TGL Charity Foundation, we actively support community upliftment and sustainable practices in gem-mining areas, reaffirming our commitment to ethical trade and social responsibility.
